Step By Step Guide to Check PF Balance Without UAN Number

As a member of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) Employee Provident Fund (EPF) portal, you can access your EPF account online using your UAN on the EPF's official website.

You can also download the EPF passbook in PDF format from the EPFO portal. After activating the UAN, you can manage your account online using a registered password. EPF subscribers can use the Universal Account Number (UAN) to verify and withdraw funds from their EPF corpus.

What is an Employee Provident Fund (EPF)?

Employee Provident Fund (EPF) refers to the monthly contribution made by both the employee and the employer through salary deductions at a fixed rate. The allowance is provided for the employees' retirement benefits.

Employees are permitted to withdraw the corpus amount at the time of retirement to cover their retirement expenses. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is in charge of managing the Employees' Provident Fund.

When you join a company and begin working, your employer creates an EPF account on your behalf. Once the EPF account is established, a Universal Account Number (UAN) and a member passbook are issued.

The EPF passbook contains transaction details, contribution amounts, withdrawal amounts, along with some other details.

Can I Check my PF Balance without the UAN Number?

The EPFO allows the registered members to check their EPF balance through its online portal. But what if you've misplaced your UAN or you don't have one, to begin with?

Do not worry. The EPFO has taken a number of steps to increase transparency in provident fund investments for EPFO members. EPFO has modified its system in recent years so that EPFO subscribers can now check their PF or EPF balance without providing their UAN number.

It is important to note, however, that you must be registered with the UAN portal and have your KYC records linked to your EPF account in order to do so.

Ways to Check PF Balance without the UAN Number

There are three ways you can track your EPF balance without a UAN - through the online portal, through a missed call, or using the SMS services.

Check PF Balance through an SMS

The SMS service allows you to track your account balance even if you don't have a UAN number.

Simply text EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.

This service is available to employees in English, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Hindi, Bengali, and other languages. For example, if you prefer to get the information in Hindi, type 'HIN’ instead of ‘ENG.’

Please ensure that your mobile number is registered on the UAN portal before using this service.

Check PF Balance through a Missed Call

You can also obtain information about your PF balance through the missed call service.

Simply send a missed call to 011-229014016 from the mobile number you have registered on the UAN portal.

How Can I Find My UAN number?

How Can I Withdraw the EPF Corpus with the UAN Number?

You can withdraw your EPF funds by submitting either an offline or an online application. However, in order to do so through an online application, you must have an activated UAN that is linked to your Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account.

If you do not have the UAN, you can submit an offline application, and you will be able to withdraw funds from your PF account successfully. To submit the physical request, you must first download the Aadhaar-based new composite claim form or the non-Aadhaar composite claim form.

In the case of an Aadhaar-based new composite claim form, you must fill it out and submit it to the regional PF office without the employer's certification. In the case of a non-Aadhaar composite claim form, you must fill it out to get it approved.

This is required by the PF office to prevent abuse and ensure that no one withdraws funds on your behalf.

Remember that your composite claim form must be attested by a bank manager, a Gazetted Officer, or a Magistrate.

After filling out the application form, you must submit it to the appropriate jurisdictional EPF office.
