As a member of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) Employee Provident Fund (EPF) portal, you can access your EPF account online using your UAN on the EPF's official website.
You can also download the EPF passbook in PDF format from the EPFO portal. After activating the UAN, you can manage your account online using a registered password. EPF subscribers can use the Universal Account Number (UAN) to verify and withdraw funds from their EPF corpus.
However, there are situations in which a subscriber's UAN is inaccessible, has been lost, or has not been activated. So what can you do in such situations?
Well, there are several ways by which EPF members can check their EPF balance. In the following sections, we will discuss the ways to check PF balance without the UAN number with a step-by-step process.
We will also discuss additional information such as how to find your UAN number and the process to withdraw the EPF corpus.
Employee Provident Fund (EPF) refers to the monthly contribution made by both the employee and the employer through salary deductions at a fixed rate. The allowance is provided for the employees' retirement benefits.
Employees are permitted to withdraw the corpus amount at the time of retirement to cover their retirement expenses. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is in charge of managing the Employees' Provident Fund.
When you join a company and begin working, your employer creates an EPF account on your behalf. Once the EPF account is established, a Universal Account Number (UAN) and a member passbook are issued.
The EPF passbook contains transaction details, contribution amounts, withdrawal amounts, along with some other details.
The EPFO allows the registered members to check their EPF balance through its online portal. But what if you've misplaced your UAN or you don't have one, to begin with?
Do not worry. The EPFO has taken a number of steps to increase transparency in provident fund investments for EPFO members. EPFO has modified its system in recent years so that EPFO subscribers can now check their PF or EPF balance without providing their UAN number.
It is important to note, however, that you must be registered with the UAN portal and have your KYC records linked to your EPF account in order to do so.
There are three ways you can track your EPF balance without a UAN - through the online portal, through a missed call, or using the SMS services.
Let us learn about them in detail.
To check your PF balance without UAN on the EPFO portal, follow the steps mentioned below:
The SMS service allows you to track your account balance even if you don't have a UAN number.
Simply text EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.
This service is available to employees in English, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Hindi, Bengali, and other languages. For example, if you prefer to get the information in Hindi, type 'HIN’ instead of ‘ENG.’
Please ensure that your mobile number is registered on the UAN portal before using this service.
You can also obtain information about your PF balance through the missed call service.
Simply send a missed call to 011-229014016 from the mobile number you have registered on the UAN portal.
To find your UAN, follow the below-mentioned steps:
You can withdraw your EPF funds by submitting either an offline or an online application.
To withdraw your Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) online, you will need to follow these steps -
Log in to the UAN portal using your UAN (Universal Account Number) and password.
Click on the 'Manage' tab and then on 'KYC' to see if your KYC details, such as Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details, have been verified.
After the KYC details are verified, click the 'Online Services' tab and select 'Claim (Form-31, 19 & 10C)'.
You will see the member details, KYC details, and other service details on the next screen. Enter your account number and press the 'Verify' button.
Sign the undertaking certificate by clicking 'Yes' and click on ‘Proceed for Online Claim’.
Under the tab 'I Want To Apply For', select your claim type, e.g., full EPF settlement, part withdrawal (loan/advance), or pension withdrawal. There will be no option to withdraw PF or pension if the member is not eligible due to the service criteria.
Click on 'PF Advance (Form 31)' to withdraw your money. Also, include the purpose and amount of the advance, as well as the address of the employee.
Simply click on the certificate to submit your application. Depending on the purpose for which you have completed the form, you may be required to submit relative scanned documents.
It is only once the employer approves the withdrawal request that you'll receive the money in your bank account, usually within 15-20 days.
In order to withdraw your EPF online, you must have an active UAN and be registered on the EPF member portal. If you do not have an active UAN, you can request one by contacting your employer or the EPF office.
If you do not have the UAN, you can submit an offline application, and you will be able to withdraw funds from your PF account successfully. To submit the physical request, you must first download the Aadhaar-based new composite claim form or the non-Aadhaar composite claim form.
In the case of an Aadhaar-based new composite claim form, you must fill it out and submit it to the regional PF office without the employer's certification. In the case of a non-Aadhaar composite claim form, you must fill it out to get it approved.
This is required by the PF office to prevent abuse and ensure that no one withdraws funds on your behalf.
Remember that your composite claim form must be attested by a bank manager, a Gazetted Officer, or a Magistrate.
After filling out the application form, you must submit it to the appropriate jurisdictional EPF office.
EPF is mandatory for employees working under companies that have a PF scheme. Every employee of the company is required to maintain a PF account. It is an extremely important asset that you need to build financial security for your retirement. UAN or Unique Account Number is mandatory for online access and withdrawal from your PF account.
Having a PF account helps you enjoy many tax benefits and other perks like free insurance coverage, etc. Keeping your UAN up-to-date is the key to maximizing these benefits. Additionally, this unique number is required for online PF withdrawals.
Yes, applying for an EPF withdrawal online is valid and simple.
It takes approximately 15-20 days for the money to reach your bank account after the withdrawal request has been properly submitted and approved by the employer.
Under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act of 1961, contributions to the EPF are deductible.
According to new EPF regulations, you can withdraw funds from your EPF account without the permission of your employer.
Even though it is not required to provide a PAN card for EPF withdrawal, it is strongly advised. This is because if you provide your PAN card when withdrawing your EPF, you will be required to pay a 10% TDS, which will increase to 30% if you do not provide your PAN.
If you quit your job or leave a company and start working somewhere else, your EPF account will no longer receive monthly contributions. This does not mean the account will be deactivated.
When you join another company under the same UAN, your new employer will open a new EPF account for you. You can then request that EPFO merge the old and new EPF accounts.
If you have multiple EPF accounts, you can consolidate them into one account by submitting an application through the EPF website. You will not only save a lot of time but also have a clean and organized record of your earnings.
