Step 1: Download the PhonePe app on your mobile device
Step 2: Register on the app using your mobile number and the OTP
Step 3: Once logged in, click on the profile in the top left corner
Step 4: Under “Payment Methods”, select “Add bank account”
Step 5: Next, choose the bank you want to add
(Note that the bank account must be linked to the number you registered with PhonePe)
Step 6: Once you select the bank, PhonePe will send an SMS from the registered mobile number to the bank for verification
Step 7: After successful verification, your bank account will be automatically fetched and linked to PhonePe
Once you add your bank account, you must set a PIN for your UPI account to secure the transactions. You can either use your debit card or your Aadhaar number to set the PIN.
Previously, to set or reset the UPI PIN, a debit card was necessary. However, PhonePe has introduced a new method to aid those who may not have their debit cards readily available. Here is the step-by-step process of setting a UPI PIN without a debit card.
STEP 1: Once you add your account, click on your profile picture in the top left corner
STEP 2: Select your bank account under “Payment Methods”
STEP 3: Choose either “Set” or “Reset” next to “UPI PIN”
STEP 4: Select the Aadhaar card option and click on ‘Proceed’
STEP 5: Enter the first 6 digits of your Aadhaar number
STEP 6: You will receive two OTPs, one from UIDAI and another from your bank
STEP 7: Enter the OTPs for verification
STEP 8: Next, set the UPI PIN and re-enter it for confirmation
STEP 9: Tap confirm, and your UPI PIN is set
Note: To employ this process, the mobile number linked to your bank account, Aadhaar card, and PhonePe account must be the same.
Some users may not get the option to change their UPI PIN using an Aadhaar number. It can be due to any one of the following reasons.
You may have entered your Aadhaar number wrong twice in a row. If so, try again after 24 hours
The bank account you are trying to add on PhonePe is not linked to your Aadhaar card
Your bank might not yet support setting a UPI PIN using an Aadhaar number
In these cases, you have to use your debit card to set your PIN. If you don’t have a debit card, approach your bank and resolve the issue.
