Most banks give debit cards to their customers. Debit cards can be used for making transactions as well as for withdrawing money from ATMs. The PIN generation process is similar for both of them.
The PIN is short for Personal Identification Number and is a 4-digit secret number. It is used to authenticate your transaction. It is advised to not share your PIN with anyone else.

Using the ATM to set your Debit card or ATM card PIN is the most preferred method. If you are generating your PIN for the first time, you will need to visit your nearest SBI ATM.
When the card is delivered to you, a default PIN is printed inside the sealed envelope. That needs to be changed for you to be able to access your bank account using your card.
There is a period within which you will have to generate your first PIN. If you cross that date, the default PIN will become invalid. Once at the SBI ATM, you can follow these steps for SBI debit card PIN generation -
STEP-1: Insert your SBI debit card in the ATM slot and select your preferred language.
STEP-2: You will be prompted to enter your PIN. Enter the default PIN printed on your envelope.
STEP-3: The ATM will further prompt you to change your PIN. Enter your new PIN and submit the request.
This is how you can set your PIN for the first time before using it for any transactions.
You are advised not to write your PIN anywhere and to memorise it. Still, to protect your bank account, you must change your PIN once in a while. You might also need to reset your PIN if you forget your PIN.
This is how to generate SBI ATM PIN for the second time -
STEP-1: Insert your card in the ATM slot and select your preferred language.
STEP-2: Select the ‘Generate ATM PIN’ option.
STEP-3: Choose the ‘Generate OTP’ option. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
STEP-4: Remove and reinsert your card in the ATM slot. Select the ‘Generate ATM PIN’ option.
STEP-5: Then, choose the ‘Validate OTP’ option and enter the OTP you received on your mobile number.
STEP-6: On successful validation, the ATM will prompt you to create a new PIN. You will be able to use your card with the new PIN immediately.
SBI debit card PIN generation by SMS can be done from your mobile phone wherever you are. Follow these steps to do it -
STEP-1: Send an SMS with the keyword <PIN><space><last 4 digits of your debit card><space><last 4 digits of your account number>from your registered mobile number to 567676.
STEP-2: You will receive an OTP on your mobile number which will be valid for 2 days.
STEP-3: Visit the nearest SBI ATM and go to ‘Services’ → ‘ATM Card Services’ → ‘Generate ATM PIN’ → ‘Validate OTP’.
STEP-4: Enter the OTP that you received on your mobile number. Once the validation is successful, you will be prompted to create a new PIN.
STEP-6: You will be able to use your card with the new PIN immediately.
Please note that for using the SBI debit card PIN generation by SMS service, your mobile number needs to be registered with SBI. You can use only your registered number to avail of this service. If your number is not registered with SBI, you can visit your nearest SBI branch to update your details.

Call any of the numbers and follow the steps mentioned below -
STEP-1: The IVRS instructions will give you some options, including language preferences. From the options provided, select ‘ATM and Prepaid Card Services’ → ‘Generate Green PIN’. You will need to dial the corresponding number of the service mentioned.
STEP-2: Provide your debit card and account number when requested. Select the ‘Request a New PIN’ option.
STEP-3: Once they confirm your identity, you will receive an OTP on your mobile number. The OTP will be valid for 2 days.
STEP-4: Then, you can visit the nearest SBI ATM and insert your card in the slot.
STEP-5: Go to ‘Services’ → ‘ATM Card Services’ → ‘Generate ATM PIN’ → ‘Validate OTP’.
STEP-6: Enter the OTP that you received on your mobile number. Once the validation is successful, you will be prompted to create a new PIN.
STEP-7: You will be able to use your card with the new PIN immediately.
Please note that to successfully use the SBI debit card PIN generation through customer care service, you will need to keep your debit card and account details ready before making the call. You will also need to be able to answer the security questions accurately to validate your identity.
Internet banking makes it possible to complete SBI debit card PIN generation online. The only prerequisite is that you will need an active internet banking account with SBI.
If you need an internet banking account with SBI, just visit their official website and create one. Then, follow these steps for SBI debit card PIN generation online -
STEP-1: Log into your SBI internet banking account with your username and password. Go to the ‘e-services’ → ‘Generate ATM PIN’ option.
STEP-2: Select the card you want to create a new PIN from the list of available cards. Click on ‘Confirm’.
STEP-3: You will be redirected to the ATM PIN generation page. 2 options will be available - One-Time Password (OTP) or Profile Password. Select the OTP option, to receive an OTP on your mobile number.
STEP-4: Enter the OTP when prompted, and click on ‘Continue’.
STEP-5: Select the ATM Card and enter the first 2 digits on the new PIN. The last 2 digits will be sent to your registered mobile number via SMS.
STE-6: Enter the 2 digits selected by you and the 2 digits received on your mobile number. Finally, click on ‘Submit’ to generate your SBI ATM PIN.
You can generate your SBI debit card PIN using the Yono app easily. Here are the steps you need to follow for the same -
STEP-1: Open the Yono app on your phone and log in using your credentials.
STEP-2: The dashboard will open in front of you. Tap on the menu icon on the top left side and select the ‘Service Request’ → ‘Manage PIN’ option.
STEP-3: Select the card for which you want to change the PIN and click on ‘Generate OTP’.
STEP-4: Enter the OTP and then enter the new PIN twice. Finally, click on ‘Submit’.
Your ATM PIN is not stored anywhere. If you have forgotten your PIN, you cannot retrieve it in any way. However, you can easily generate a new PIN and use your ATM card without any hassle.
There are multiple ways for you to generate your ATM PIN without going to the ATM. You can do so by calling your bank’s customer care or through SMS. You can also generate an ATM PIN using internet banking or your bank’s mobile app.
Generally, an SBI ATM card takes 24 hours from the issuance time to get activated. You are advised to activate it as soon as possible for smooth use.
